Windshield damage can strike unexpectedly, caused by anything from pebbles and debris to harsh weather. A damaged windshield isn’t just an inconvenience; it poses a safety risk by impairing visibility. Prompt repair is crucial.

One pressing concern following such damage is the cost of windshield repair or replacement. If you have insurance, you might wonder whether it covers windshield repair or replacement. The answer depends on your policy.

Many policies may cover windshield services, but they could require a deductible or specific insurance coverage for this type of damage. Reviewing your policy to understand what’s included and excluded is vital.

Be aware that some insurers set limits on how often you can claim for windshield services or might specify which auto glass repair shops you can use. Knowing these details beforehand can save you time and hassle should you need to file a windshield repair or replacement claim.

How Much Does a Windshield Repair Cost?

Repairing your windshield is often a more budget-friendly option compared to a windshield replacement, especially when the damage is minimal. The cost of repair hinges on how extensive the damage is. You’ll likely face a lower expense for minor chips and cracks.

However, the cost of replacing a windshield can differ significantly, depending on several factors:

  • Vehicle Model: The make and model of your car play a crucial role. Due to unique features or sizes, high-end or specialty vehicles often require more expensive windshields.
  • Your Location: Where you live can influence the cost. Prices can vary based on the local market and the availability of specific windshield types in your region.
  • Glass Type: The material of your windshield also affects the price. While standard glass comes cheaper, specialized versions with additional features like UV protection or thermal resistance can be costlier.

Remember, while windshield repair is less expensive, there are more viable options. Extensive or strategically located damage might necessitate a replacement for safety. Always consult a professional auto glass expert to evaluate your windshield’s condition and get the right solution that balances cost, safety, and durability.

Comprehensive Coverage May Cover Your Windshield Repair Cost!

Good news for those with comprehensive auto insurance coverage: your policy may cover the cost of windshield repairs. This type of insurance typically handles damages to your vehicle not caused by collisions, such as theft, vandalism, or environmental factors. Since windshield damage often falls outside accident-related incidents, it’s likely eligible for coverage under comprehensive policies.

However, it’s important to remember that comprehensive insurance usually involves a deductible. You’ll need to pay this before your insurance begins to cover the costs. The specific deductible could be a fixed amount or a percentage of the total repair cost, depending on your policy’s terms.

Regarding comprehensive insurance, remember that some policies might cap the coverage amount for windshield repairs or replacements. It’s best to review your policy in detail or contact your provider for information about your coverage. Your insurance provider can inform you about the specifics of your coverage, including your deductible and any potential limitations or restrictions related to windshield repair and replacement services. Doing this ensures you’re fully informed about the scope of your policy’s protection against windshield damage.

General Steps to File a Windshield Damage Claim

Filing a claim for windshield damage involves a few key steps, and the exact process can vary depending on your insurer. Here’s a general guide to help you through:

  1. Determine the Claim Filing Method:
    1. Directly with Your Insurer: Some insurers require you to file a claim through their online portal or by calling them.
    2. Through a Third-Party Provider: Other insurers might direct you to a third-party claims service, which typically works with a network of glass repair shops.
  2. Filing the Claim with Your Insurance Company:
    1. Be prepared to provide information such as the date and time the damage occurred, details of the involved vehicles, the cause of the damage, your policy number, and your contact details.
  3. Using a Third-Party Service:
    1. You can choose a glass repair shop from their network if your insurer employs a third-party service. The shop will handle the claim with your insurer.
    2. You’ll need to provide the shop with your insurance details, policy number, deductible amount, and specific vehicle information (year, make, model, VIN).
  4. Handling the Deductible:
    1. If a deductible applies, you’ll typically pay this directly to the repair shop after completing the work.
  5. Verify the Process with Your Insurer:
    1. It’s best to contact your insurance agent or company for specific instructions on filing a glass claim.

This general guideline can simplify the process of filing a windshield damage claim. Confirming the steps with your insurance provider to align with their specific requirements is always best.

Timely action on windshield damage is essential for safety and visibility. Navigating insurance claims for repairs can be complex, and every insurer has its process. Approximately $100 dollars for 15 minutes of work. They did a good job but for that price I would hope they include some value add services like maybe cleaning the inside and outside of your windshield.

Kryger was so helpful with my windshield replacement. They helped me make my claim and even let me know I would save over $100 not using insurance once they received the claim. They got me in the very next morning and my car was done before lunch. 10/10 will definitely be using them for all my glass needs

Called a few places to check prices and availability. Kryger was the only place able to answer with a real person, give a quote in minutes, and had amazing availability. The staff was courteous and friendly and the whole process was easy. Price was VERY doable as well. Great experience. Hoping I don’t break anymore windows- but if I do, this is where I’ll be going for replacements.

The Krygers glass company are run by a reputable family that has been in Kansas City for years and I hope will be around much longer. I wouldn't call any other glass company for our needs. This is my second time to call for windshield, And it turned out this time. No repair was necessary and they were completely honest with me . This time I also needed to replace some tempered glass for a table. I did end up reluctantly working with a " chat online" but discovered it really was somebody in the office. It worked well for both orders and did end up being very personal start to finish. The whole process was simple, yet professional and very good price. I highly recommend the Krygers.

I brought my vehicle in for a new windshield on the 13th or May. They had the windshield in stock and were able to finish it very quickly. They are a competitively priced company with great customer service. This is my second vehicleI brought to them to have the windshield replaced, their services are constantly of good quality and without any problems with the installation.
Thank you for service!

Finding out your windshield has a massive crack? Unfortunate, but we were fortunate to find Kryger Glass.

Kryger Glass made getting a quote quick and painless. Their pricing is reasonable. We opted to pay the added fee for the convenience of mobile service because we were within their serviceable area. They waste no time scheduling and completing a job—they’d have been out sooner had it not been for our schedule, and it was still less than a week. Joe, our technician, was prompt, polite, and professional. The job took less than an hour. The new windshield looks fantastic.

While I hope we don’t have to reach out for a windshield anytime soon, if needed, we’re reaching out to Kryger Glass.

Thank you, Kryger Glass, and thank you, Joe, for a job well done!

I got my windshield replaced here about a month ago. It was easy to get a quote and it reflected the actual prices. Mind you it was also the lowest price out of 6 places I called! The service took just under an hour to complete and I was shocked! Overall I was very please to be able to get my cracked windshield fixed so fast! Fast forward to now, there’s water coming into my car so I gave them a call to make sure it was nothing with the windshield. They got me in that day, fixed the issue which wasn’t even related to their work, only took 20 minutes, and they did it for free!!! Honestly overall 10/10 experience. I would recommend coming here for any of your glass needs!
