April Showers Brings… New Storm Windows!

It’s that time of year, folks! From heavy rains to hail to tornados, you want the best protection for your home! Here at Kryger, we keep your safety in mind, too.

“But, what are storm windows?”

Storm windows are an extra layer of protection from the outdoors. They can either go on the interior or exterior of your already existing windows!

Storm windows give you a bit of extra insurance if a storm were to hit your home, which is very common during this time of year. The extra layer of glass takes the brunt of the damage from heavy winds, hail, or other flying debris. It can protect you and your family, as well as your more expensive interior mounted windows.

Mounted windows are much more expensive to replace or repair (upwards of $250 for a repair!), and that’s why storm windows are a great investment and a necessary addition to your home! They also keep that much needed cool air inside during the summer due to the extra insulation, so you won’t rack up your utility bill due to drafty or leaky windows.

“I have a storm window with a broken frame, can you fix it?”

Absolutely! No matter what configuration you have, as long as it’s made with glass we can fix it.

We’ll work with your particular frame, from wood to vinyl to metal frames. We will also repair two-track, two-track slider, triple-track and picture storm windows.

However, some storm windows are made with plastic sheets, which we are unable to repair.

“My frame is fine, but my glass is broken. Can you help?”

Of course! Our expert installers specialize in all types of glass, and we guarantee that your new windows will be leak and draft-free when we’re done with them!

“My storm windows are very old. Should I replace them?”

There’s nothing worse than an unreliable safety feature for your home! Slide the window or windows out and bring them over to us!

Keep in mind that the older the window, the greater the chance that the glass will break during transport or removal. Be careful when removing the window, and place it in a flat box or a trash bag for a safe ride!

“Wait, back up. How do I remove my storm window?”

These guys might be a little tricky, but most storm windows come out with ease after some practice.

Some helpful tips:

• • Make sure to wear thick gloves and carefully remove the window to avoid breaking the glass any further.

• • Check for any pieces of glass that may have come loose during removal.

• Place the window in a thick trash bag, flattened cardboard box or container so that if it starts to break on the way in, the glass is contained.
