Cracked Glass? Fix It Before It Spreads

Fix It Now – Book Service

Auto glass is a critical part of your vehicle, so choosing the right type is essential. Whether replacing your windshield or upgrading your car, your glass choice impacts both functionality and cost. Many people, however, aren’t fully informed when it comes to selecting the right windshield.

Are you unsure whether to go with an OEM or aftermarket option? Understanding the differences can help you make the best choice for your vehicle, budget, and safety.

What distinguishes OEM from aftermarket windshields? Is one of higher quality or more affordable? This blog will answer these questions and provide a detailed comparison of both options.

Difference Between OEM and Aftermarket Windshields

While both are similar, the two types of windshields have key differences that you need to know about. These differences affect your car and the amount of money you will spend getting a new windscreen installed.

OEM Glass

Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) glass is the same type initially installed in your vehicle during manufacturing. As a result, it offers a perfect fit, ensuring that your windshield aligns seamlessly with your car’s specifications. OEM glass provides the same high-quality standard as the original, delivering optimal performance, clarity, and durability.

However, the primary downside to OEM glass is its price. Why are OEM windshields more expensive? The answer is that they are made to meet strict manufacturer standards, ensuring perfect fitment and superior quality and safety. OEM windshields are often subjected to higher quality control processes and come with a warranty that guarantees their durability. This level of quality assurance and the associated safety features make them a more costly option compared to aftermarket alternatives.

Aftermarket Glass

Aftermarket glass is made by third-party manufacturers and designed to fit various vehicles, unlike OEM glass, which the original car manufacturer makes. While aftermarket windshields aren’t necessarily of lower quality, they may present challenges, such as a less precise fit, leading to installation issues or performance concerns over time.

What are the advantages of aftermarket windshields? The primary benefit is cost. Aftermarket windshields are generally much cheaper than OEM options, offering a more affordable alternative for replacing your windshield. While they may not provide the same fit or brand-specific design, they still meet safety standards and serve as a reliable, budget-friendly option.

Are OEM Windshields Better than Aftermarket Ones

OEM windshields provide the best option for your car in terms of quality and security. They are designed for your vehicle, ensuring a precise fit and high-quality performance.

While aftermarket windshields are generally reliable, they may not fit as precisely as OEM options. These windshields are made to fit a range of vehicles, which can lead to slight variations that affect installation or performance.

Can You Use an Aftermarket Windshield in Place of OEM

Yes, there is nothing wrong with choosing to use a windshield not made by the original manufacturer. Other types of glass can still perform well in your vehicle, but they may not offer the same level of fit and customization as OEM windshields. While they meet safety standards, they are less specific to your car’s design, which may make them a bit riskier in comparison.

Are there safety concerns with aftermarket windscreens? Not inherently; nothing about them is unsafe in a vacuum. Issues are more likely to arise because of the variant’s unspecific nature, so it is technically less safe than OEM windscreens. However, it still has to meet the minimum safety standards. It may not be as protective as its counterpart, but it works fine.

Can You Spot the Difference Between an OEM and Aftermarket Windshield

You can quickly identify whether your windshield is OEM or aftermarket. Look for the manufacturer’s logo or name, typically found in a corner of the glass. If the logo is absent or the name belongs to a different manufacturer than your vehicle’s original maker, your windshield is likely aftermarket.

Approximately $100 dollars for 15 minutes of work. They did a good job but for that price I would hope they include some value add services like maybe cleaning the inside and outside of your windshield.

Kryger was so helpful with my windshield replacement. They helped me make my claim and even let me know I would save over $100 not using insurance once they received the claim. They got me in the very next morning and my car was done before lunch. 10/10 will definitely be using them for all my glass needs

Called a few places to check prices and availability. Kryger was the only place able to answer with a real person, give a quote in minutes, and had amazing availability. The staff was courteous and friendly and the whole process was easy. Price was VERY doable as well. Great experience. Hoping I don’t break anymore windows- but if I do, this is where I’ll be going for replacements.

The Krygers glass company are run by a reputable family that has been in Kansas City for years and I hope will be around much longer. I wouldn't call any other glass company for our needs. This is my second time to call for windshield, And it turned out this time. No repair was necessary and they were completely honest with me . This time I also needed to replace some tempered glass for a table. I did end up reluctantly working with a " chat online" but discovered it really was somebody in the office. It worked well for both orders and did end up being very personal start to finish. The whole process was simple, yet professional and very good price. I highly recommend the Krygers.

I brought my vehicle in for a new windshield on the 13th or May. They had the windshield in stock and were able to finish it very quickly. They are a competitively priced company with great customer service. This is my second vehicleI brought to them to have the windshield replaced, their services are constantly of good quality and without any problems with the installation.
Thank you for service!

Finding out your windshield has a massive crack? Unfortunate, but we were fortunate to find Kryger Glass.

Kryger Glass made getting a quote quick and painless. Their pricing is reasonable. We opted to pay the added fee for the convenience of mobile service because we were within their serviceable area. They waste no time scheduling and completing a job—they’d have been out sooner had it not been for our schedule, and it was still less than a week. Joe, our technician, was prompt, polite, and professional. The job took less than an hour. The new windshield looks fantastic.

While I hope we don’t have to reach out for a windshield anytime soon, if needed, we’re reaching out to Kryger Glass.

Thank you, Kryger Glass, and thank you, Joe, for a job well done!

I got my windshield replaced here about a month ago. It was easy to get a quote and it reflected the actual prices. Mind you it was also the lowest price out of 6 places I called! The service took just under an hour to complete and I was shocked! Overall I was very please to be able to get my cracked windshield fixed so fast! Fast forward to now, there’s water coming into my car so I gave them a call to make sure it was nothing with the windshield. They got me in that day, fixed the issue which wasn’t even related to their work, only took 20 minutes, and they did it for free!!! Honestly overall 10/10 experience. I would recommend coming here for any of your glass needs!
