Cracked Glass? Fix It Before It Spreads

Fix It Now – Book Service

It’s the bane of every driver’s existence: You’re on your way to work, and suddenly your windshield is covered in a thick layer of fog.  Not only is it frustrating, but failing to see where you’re going can be dangerous. Luckily, while there are a few reasons why car windows are fogging up, there are also a few ways to fix them.

Let’s explore why car windows fog up and what you can do to prevent it from happening.

What causes car windows to fog?

There are a few different reasons that car windows may fog up. First, moisture can condense on the windows if the outside temperature is cold and the inside temperature is warm. If moisture is trapped in your car mats, they can fog up the car if left wet long enough. This is because warm air holds more moisture than cold air.

Another reason why car windows may fog up is if there’s a leak in the car’s ventilation system. This can cause moist air to enter the car and condense on the windows. If it’s cold outside, respiration from passengers can also be a problem, as moisture can build up on the windows if there is too much condensation in the air.

Finally, a broken window seal. This can cause rain droplets to enter the car and turn into water vapor. This problem can be fixed, but it’s essential to do it sooner rather than later, so it doesn’t lead to future problems like mold and rot.

Now the question is, how do you get rid of foggy car windows?

How can I prevent my car windows from fogging?

When your windows start to fog up, it can be difficult to see, and if you’re not careful, it can be dangerous. There are a few things that you can do to prevent your windows from fogging. Here are a few things to do when your windows fog up:

Clean your windows regularly. Dirt, dust, and other debris can build up on your windows and cause them to fog easily. Use a glass cleaner and a soft cloth to clean your windows both inside and out.

Balance the temperature. Ensure the temperature inside your car is not too hot or too cold. If it’s too hot, the humidity will increase and cause your windows to fog. If it’s too cold, the moisture in the air will condense on your windows. Try to keep the temperature inside your car comfortable so that the air isn’t too humid or too dry.

Allow circulation.  Crack open a window slightly when you get in your car. This will allow some of the stale air inside your vehicle to escape and will help to prevent fogging.

Consider tinting your windows. Tinted windows will help reduce the amount of moisture in the air and keep your windows from fogging up.

Replace the seals around your windows. Over time, the seals can wear out and allow moisture to enter your car. If you live in an area with a lot of humidity, you may need to replace your window seals more often.

Turn on your defroster. If you need to defrost your windows quickly, turn the heater to a maximum setting and direct the air vents toward the windshield. However, defrosting too quickly can cause condensation, only worsening the problem.

Turn off your recirculation button. You should remember that defrosting your car is only a temporary solution. You’ll experience another foggy windshield if the humidity level inside your car is still high. Switching off your recirculation button can help bring fresh, dry air inside the car and will help to get rid of moisture.

Finally, if all else fails, you can always use anti-fog wipes or sprays on your windows. If it’s winter, always remember that the inside of your windows and windshield will be fogged up, so be sure to choose a spray specifically for interior glass. However, if it’s summer, you can use an anti-fog spray that’s made for the outside, as you want to prevent condensation on the glass.

By following these tips, you can help prevent your windows from fogging and see clearly while driving.

What if the fog won’t disappear?

If you check all the things above and still can’t figure out the root of your fogging problem, it could be a faulty window or windshield. Approximately $100 dollars for 15 minutes of work. They did a good job but for that price I would hope they include some value add services like maybe cleaning the inside and outside of your windshield.

Kryger was so helpful with my windshield replacement. They helped me make my claim and even let me know I would save over $100 not using insurance once they received the claim. They got me in the very next morning and my car was done before lunch. 10/10 will definitely be using them for all my glass needs

Called a few places to check prices and availability. Kryger was the only place able to answer with a real person, give a quote in minutes, and had amazing availability. The staff was courteous and friendly and the whole process was easy. Price was VERY doable as well. Great experience. Hoping I don’t break anymore windows- but if I do, this is where I’ll be going for replacements.

The Krygers glass company are run by a reputable family that has been in Kansas City for years and I hope will be around much longer. I wouldn't call any other glass company for our needs. This is my second time to call for windshield, And it turned out this time. No repair was necessary and they were completely honest with me . This time I also needed to replace some tempered glass for a table. I did end up reluctantly working with a " chat online" but discovered it really was somebody in the office. It worked well for both orders and did end up being very personal start to finish. The whole process was simple, yet professional and very good price. I highly recommend the Krygers.

I brought my vehicle in for a new windshield on the 13th or May. They had the windshield in stock and were able to finish it very quickly. They are a competitively priced company with great customer service. This is my second vehicleI brought to them to have the windshield replaced, their services are constantly of good quality and without any problems with the installation.
Thank you for service!

Finding out your windshield has a massive crack? Unfortunate, but we were fortunate to find Kryger Glass.

Kryger Glass made getting a quote quick and painless. Their pricing is reasonable. We opted to pay the added fee for the convenience of mobile service because we were within their serviceable area. They waste no time scheduling and completing a job—they’d have been out sooner had it not been for our schedule, and it was still less than a week. Joe, our technician, was prompt, polite, and professional. The job took less than an hour. The new windshield looks fantastic.

While I hope we don’t have to reach out for a windshield anytime soon, if needed, we’re reaching out to Kryger Glass.

Thank you, Kryger Glass, and thank you, Joe, for a job well done!

I got my windshield replaced here about a month ago. It was easy to get a quote and it reflected the actual prices. Mind you it was also the lowest price out of 6 places I called! The service took just under an hour to complete and I was shocked! Overall I was very please to be able to get my cracked windshield fixed so fast! Fast forward to now, there’s water coming into my car so I gave them a call to make sure it was nothing with the windshield. They got me in that day, fixed the issue which wasn’t even related to their work, only took 20 minutes, and they did it for free!!! Honestly overall 10/10 experience. I would recommend coming here for any of your glass needs!
